Baldwin of Flanders

Baldwin of Flanders
   Baldwin I, first emperor (q.v.) of the Latin Empire of Constantinople (qq.v.) and one of the leaders of the Fourth Crusade (q.v.). He was crowned in 1204 and the next year was captured by the Bulgarian leader Kaoljan (q.v.) in a battle near Adrianople (q.v.). He apparently died in 1205 while imprisoned in Bulgaria (q.v.).
